Gaelic Football

Gaelic Football in the Bish has always been an important place in the development of players for both club and county football. The Bish won an historic Senior B Football Championship title in March 2020 for the first time since 1967 under the management of Alan Glynn. Unfortunately due to Covid, an historic All Ireland Semi Final could not be played aginst Mallow.

In November 2021, The Bish captured an historic Senior A League title after a pulsating vistory over the famed St. Jarlath's College in the final that was played in the Airdome in Bekan. Jack Nolan captained the team on the night and the likes of Jack Folan, James Summerville, Charlie Cox, Sean O' Connor and Harry Browne had fantastic performances on the night. This was followed up in 2022 by winning our first ever Senior A Football Championship win against Rice College before losing to Comans Claremorris in the semi final.

Alan Glynn was manager again for 2022 of the Galway Minor Team and The Bish was well represented again by Charlie Cox, Sean O' Connor, James Summerville, James Kelly, Sean Dunne and Brian Mitchell. It was a brilliant year for the lads as Galway won the All Ireland final after defeating a much vaunted Mayo side in an historic final in Hyde Park in July. It was an unbelievable achievement to have 6 players on the squad where competition is fierce. This is an indication of the work that goes on in the school. Hopefully there will be many more in 2023 and beyond.

In recent years players like Peter Cooke and Eamonn Brannigan have represented the blue jersey of the Bish before continuing their careers and excelling in the maroon and white of Galway. There’s a dedicated group of teachers working extremely hard for Gaelic football to succeed in the school. In 2018 for example under the tutelage of Mr Alan Glynn and Mr Keith O Reilly the Bish won their first ever Connacht Junior A championship title by defeating St Gerald’s castlebar in the final 3-15 to 0-5. This was a fantastic achievement and hopefully the start of many more titles. The school has won Connacht titles at First year and Juvenile level too in recent years. We field teams at all levels and the development of players is at the forefront of our thinking. The school have players on every county development squad in Galway from u14 upwards to minor at u17. In February 2020 Alan Glynn was successfully chosen as the Galway minor manager. Included in his management team was Trevor Burke. This was a source of great pride for The Bish and tastament to his hard work and dedication. On the 2020 Galway minor panel, The Bish had James Egan, Gary Higgins, Aaron Kavanagh, Daniel Flaherty and Matthew Mulvaney. Unfortunately due to Covid the championship was postponed but hopefully it will return in 2021.

We had 6 players on the 2019 Galway minor panel. Last year over 7 players were on the victorious Ted Webb u16 panel that won the Connacht title ironically under the guidance of Mr Glynn. We had two players on the victorious Galway Connacht minor winning team too in 2018 in Eoin Tinney and Daniel Cox. Teachers involved in coaching include Alan Glynn, Ciarán de Paor, Cathal McGinn, Keith O Reilly, Alan Murphy, Rob Leonard and Trevor Burke. In 2020 The Bish were well represented on the Galway Minor panel with captain Daniel O' Flaherty, James Egan, Matthew Mulvaney and Aaron Kavanagh. In 2021, Mr. Alan Glynn is again Galway Minor manager.
