U14 Rugby Connacht Semi Final

The Bish were defeated by Garbally College, Ballinasloe In the U14 Connacht Final April. The final score was 5-0 to Garbally. Despite a valiant attempt in the last 20 minutes to get over the line the Garbally defense held strong and they were duly crowned Champions. The semi final was a different affair.

The Bish and Ballygar faced each-other on Wednesday afternoon in the Connacht U14 semi-final. The match was played in Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo, in wet and blustery conditions. However, the weather did not dampen the quality of play from the men from Nun's Island. 5 minutes in good hands released the ball to winger Jack Keville who ran 40 metres and scored a try under the posts with Michael Hand adding the extras.

The Bishops were on a roll with Josiah Lam performing a garryowen, an opportunistic bounce and good timing allowed him to collect the ball before running 30 metres to score in the corner. This pattern was continued with centre Matthew Collins running an exhausting 70 metres to touch down after 20 minutes. The forwards decided to get in on the action and constructed a textbook maul from a lineout, drove 15 metres before hooker Ben O' Sullivan touched down for the forwards. The onslaught continued with another great display of passing from the backline to let Flanker Mark Gill score in the corner. To round up the scores for the Bish was Sean Keaney who scored after good runs from Collins and Frenchman Geoffrey Hubert.

Ballygar showed good persistence and determination and scored the final try of the game leaving the score at 36-7 to St. Joseph's college. This means that they move on to the final of the U14 Connacht Cup next Wednesday in Ballyhaunis. See pics below
