Bish U14's rise to top of Rugby Connacht League

St. Joseph’s College “The Bish” Vs. Calasanctius College “Oranmore”.

Connacht U14 schools league. 29-7

The clash between the top two teams in the U14 school’s league  took place in a dry yet blustery Newcastle pitch on Wednesday 5th of March 2014. Leaders the Bish and their opponents in second place, Calansactius took to the field. Brian O’ Malley won the toss for the men from Nun’s Island and they selected to play with the wind in the first half. The first try came after ten minutes, when good phase play allowed centre Michael Hand to touch down for the Bish. This momentum continued with Winger Jack Keville scoring in the corner after superb hands. Calasanctius did not take this lying down and got a try of their own to bring the score to 12-7.  Fighting back Josiah Lam took an excellent high ball from a kick and set up Jack Keville’s second try.The score at half time 17-7.

In the second half The Bish continued their dominance of the game due to effective rucking by the forwards and good backline defensive play. The win was sealed for the Bish men when hooker Ben O’ Sullivan crashed over for the bonus point try and second row Sean Keaney also added to the tally by scoring under the posts.

In the dying minutes of the game the Bish’s defensive line stayed strong after an onslaught from Calasanctius. The game ended 29-7 in favour of the Bish.
