Crew departs for Australia in high spirits

The Bish crew and coaches departed in the early hours of Sunday morning for Sydney to compete in the Australian Open Schools Championships during the week.

The ten-man crew and three coaches left the Cathedral car park at 4am on Sunday morning with Mike Madden driving them to Shannon in the school bus. They flew to London Heathrow and from there boarded a twelve hour flight to Kuala Lumpur. An eight hour flight completes the journey to Sydney.

The crew departed on a high after a very successful Galway Head of the River where the fours and eights titles were among the victories in another successful outing for the school.

Head coach Pete Heaney celebrated his 50th birthday on Saturday and he was presented with a cake by the club prior to the departure to Australia — and this kept the travelling party nourished on their marathon journey to Sydney!
