James Connaire leads Ireland to Euro Basketball Bronze

Congrats to James Connaire who won a Bronze medal with the Irish U18 Basketball Team in Kosovo in late July. James, a school prefect, heading into his final year in the Bish played a prominent role in the Irish campaign to win a Euroean Championship medal throughout the tournament but in particular hitting two free shots in the final game in the last 20 seconds of the game when the Irish team were one point down.

adownloadMonaco scored again and James went on to supply the assist for the final shot that won the medal with 2.6 seconds left on the shot clock. The RTE game report said that James must have ' ice in his veins ', however his coaches in the Bish already knew that. James played a major role in the Bish winning the U18 All Ireland Senior 'A' Title earlier this year and played on the Bish team that won the U16 'A' All Ireland Schools Cup in 2017. James subsequently travelled with the Bish team to represent Ireland in the International School Federation, World Schools Championships in Croatia in May 2017 sinking a memorable deep three pointer to defeat Austria in the last few seconds of overtime in their final game. In another memorable game it was left to James to take the final three point shot of the game with the clock ticking to win against a Luxembourg team, off an inbound ball, and he duly obliged to win the game.

James also played a prominent role in the Schools Inter-Regionals on the U17 WESTERN REGIONAL TEAM winning a National Title  last October. James has trained with the Irish programme over the past twelve months in preparation for the European Championships this summer and his dedication to that task has been wholehearted.  James lives in Moycullen and plays club basketball with Moycullen BC where he has has experienced much success with his team under coach Dylan Cunningham.

Well done James Connaire, we are all so proud of you.
