All Ireland Bronze for Junior and Minor Basketballers

ABOVE: BISH JUNIOR 'A' TEAM CELEBRATING THEIR 2015 SUCCESS. 

The Bish Second Year team added a National Bronze medals to their Western Regional Title in the All Ireland Junior ‘A’ Basketball finals in the NBA Tallaght on Thursday 7th May 2015. The Bish who had been crowned Western Regional Champions in a thrilling final against Calasanctius College Oranmore in March went on to qualify out of their pool with comprehensive wins over Presentation College Bray, Carrigaline Community School and Crescent College Limerick. The Bish earned a rematch of the All Ireland final the previous year with Castleisland Community School. In the other semi finals North Mon AG Cork faced Mercy Mounthawk Tralee. Following two pulsating games in the Arena the Bish lost out by a point while Mountwawk were denied a place in the final with a buzzer beater out of bound play.

The Bish 1st Years won an All Ireland Bronze medal in the All Ireland Minor 'A' Schools Finals in the University of Limerick on the May Bank Holiday weekend. The Bish who are Western Regional Minor 'A' Champions topped their group with comprehensive victories over Mercy Mounthawk, Tralee, St. Fintan's Sutton and Christian Brothers Cork. They faced an All Ireland Quarter Final against St. Macartan's College, Monaghan and this win set up a clash with the South West Regional Champions Castleisland Community School. In a thrilling encounter, the Bish were defeated by 6 points. Castleisland went on to defeat St. Malachy's College, Belfast in the final. Well done to Coach Bernard De Souza and all the team. 

It was a hugely successful year for Basketball in the school with the Bish securing the Senior 'A' National Title with three more All Ireland medals namely the U14 Cup team and the Junior and Minor Basketball teams. The Bish secured three out of the four western Regional Titles namely, Senior, Junior and Minor 'A' Titles. John Hackett, Ciaran Blaney, Connor Curran, Kyle Cunningham and James Lyons were selected on the U18, U17 and U15 National Squads. see photo below.

Cian Doheny, Brian O'Sullivan, Pavel Gillick, Dara McNulty, Kevyn Burke, James Lyons, James Connaire and James Cummins were all selected on the Western Regional Team to play in the All Ireland BIPPSC U15 Inter Regionals 2105.
