Dear Parent,

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to “The Bish Community” and to introduce you to The Bish Parents’ Council and its activities. The Parents' Council is a structure through which parents/guardians in a school can work together to provide the best education possible for their sons. We work together with the Principal, Board of Management and Staff to build an effective partnership between home and school.

We are a group of parents who volunteered to participate in the school Parents’ Council and were nominated for election thereafter.   An election for new members takes place annually at the Parents’ Council AGM, which is held on the First Year Parents’ Information Evening mid-September. The participation of new parents is always welcome.

The Parents' Council annual social calendar kick-starts, even before the school year commences, with The Bish Golf AM-AM which takes place in the month of July.  During October, as new parents and pupils are still finding their feet, the Parents’ Council organises The Bish Big Breakfast.  This entertainment-filled event offers parents (especially parents of First Year students), their sons and families, the opportunity to socialize with other parents and members of the school body over Sunday morning “brunch”.

The Parents’ Council also organises miscellaneous ad hoc smaller fundraising activities throughout the year, for which it relies on the good will of parents for their support.  Proceeds from aforementioned social events go towards the very high annual cost of financing the 3 school buses for Bish students to participate in sporting and other activities in venues throughout the city and further afield.  In the absence of this financial contribution, Bish pupils would not be afforded the opportunity to participate in many of these activities through the school. The spectacular success of Bish students in so many diverse sports is a testament to the commitment of Bish parents, past and present, who have supported school events to ensure that their sons and other Bish pupils are given the opportunity to excel in this manner.

We hope that as a Parents’ Council we will facilitate your familiarisation with other parents and the school by providing opportunities for you and your family to become involved in a series of Bish social activities organised annually. We trust that you will support your son(s) at the Bish by becoming enthusiastic participants and/or supporters of the Bish Parents’ Council and its activities.
