The Bish welcomes Minister for Education & Skills Ruairi Quinn

ministerquinn2Minister Ruairi Quinn paid a visit to the Bish accompanied by his advisor and past pupil of our school, John Walshe. He was greeted by the Principal Mr. Doyle, Deputy Principal Mr. John Madden, Head Prefect Dylan Thornton , Deputy Head prefect Colin Joyce and several senior prefects. Ten 5th year students who achieved 7As or more in the Junior Cert then spoke with the minister. He was then escorted to our computer room where Mr. Doheny's class were researching data on line. Mr.Quinn was very impressed at the IT skills evident in the group. He then paused for a moment to look at the 1965 Leaving Cert class photo and spotted John Walshe's face in the group along with former Education Minister's Seamus Brennan who graduated in the same year.  The new labs were then visited and Mr. John Loughlin's Science class were busy with a very impressive experiment. The minister then entered the gym to a round of applause from the 200 students gathered there. He was formally welcomed by Mr. Doyle and he responded with a brief speech. He then joined the staff for lunch in the staffroom. It was a very pleasant visit marking a gap of 20 years since the last visit by a Minister of Education. Both the Minister and Mr. Walshe were then presented with a memento of their visit to the Bish in this our 150th Anniversary year.
